The Social Security System or SSS is the government run social insurance program in the Philippines. It was created by way of Republic Act 1161 also known as the Social Security Act of 1954. The main purpose of R.A. 1161 is to provide meaningful protection to all SSS members and their families in times of sickness, maternity, old age, disability, death, and any other eventuality that may result in loss of income or financial difficulty.
In Region 2, the provinces of Batanes, Cagayan, Isabela, and Nueva Vizcaya all have SSS branch offices. In Batanes and Nueva Vizcay, there is only one SSS branch for each of the said provinces. While in the province of Cagayan, there are 3 SSS branches and 4 SSS branches in the province of Isabela.
