SSS Benefits

SSS Sickness Benefit

This SSS benefit is a daily cash allowance given to an SSS member for the number of days he or she is unable to work due to sickness or injury. And to be able to claim your SSS sickness benefit, claimant member must meet the following qualifying conditions:

  • The SSS member is unable to work because of an injury or sickness and is confined at home or in a hospital for a minimum of 4 days. 
  • The SSS member must have paid at least 3 months of contributions within the 12 month period before the starting day of sickness or injury. 
  • The SSS member has availed of all company sick leaves with pay for the present year and has notified the employer 
  • The SSS member must file a sickness benefit application

The amount of an SSS member's daily sickness benefit allowance is equal to 90% of the member's daily salary credit and is given up to 120 days for every calendar year

SSS Maternity Benefit

This SSS benefit grants daily cash allowance to a female SSS member who is not able to work because of childbirth or miscarriage. To qualify for SSS Maternity Benefit, a female member must meet the following qualifying conditions:

  • Must have paid at least 3 monthly contributions in the 12 month period prior to childbirth, miscarriage, or emergency termination of pregnancy. 
  • If employed, a female SSS member must inform her employer of her pregnancy and the possible date of her childbirth.
  • The female SSS member must inform the SSS about their employment status if she is unemployed, self employed, or a voluntary member, non-working spouse, or if she is an OFW member. 

The daily cash allowance for maternity benefits of an SSS member is equal to 100% of the member's average daily salary credit and the maximum compensable period is 105 days for normal or caesarian delivery and 120 for a solo parent. For miscarriage or emergency termination of pregnancy including stillbirth, the maximum compensable period is 60 days. The maternity benefit of an SSS member is given regardless of members frequency of pregnancy or civil status.

SSS Disability Benefit

The SSS Disability Benefit is a monetary benefit given to an SSS member as a monthly pension or as a lump sum amount in case he or she becomes disabled permanently. To avail of this type of SSS benefit, the SSS member must meet the following conditions:

  • The SSS member has paid at least 1 month contribution before the semester of disability.
  • For monthly disability pension, an SSS member must have paid at least 36 monthly SSS contributions before the time of disability. 
  • If the SSS member has paid less than 36 monthly SSS contributions only, he or she is only given a lump sum amount.

The minimum amount of monthly disability pension given to an SSS member is P1,000 if the SSS member has less than 10 credited years of service. P1,200 per month if with at least 10 credited years of service. And, P2,400 if the SSS member has at least 20 credit years of service. If qualified for the SSS Disability Benefit, the SSS member is given a monthly Disability Pension plus P500 monthly additional allowance. Effective January 2017, an additional benefit of P1,000 is added to the monthly disability benefit.  

For the SSS member's dependents, the monthly pension is 10% of the member's basic monthly pension or P250 whichever is higher. For the number of dependents, only 5 dependent minor children are qualified for dependents pension beginning with the youngest and substitution is not permitted. 

A 13th month pension is also given to total disability pensioners every month of December. For partial disability pensioners, 13th month pension is given if their pension duration is at least 1 year or 12 months.

SSS Retirement Benefit

The SSS Retirement Benefit is a cast benefit given to an SSS member who can no longer work because of old age. This cash benefit is given as a lump sum or as a monthly pension. And to be able to avail of the SSS Retirement Benefit an SSS member must meet the following qualifications:

  • Must have paid at least 120 monthly SSS contributions before the semester of retirement. If less than 120 monthly SSS contributions, the SSS member is only entitled to a lump sum amount equal to the SSS paid by the SSS member retiree. 
  • If the SSS member who, upon retirement age, have paid less than 120 monthly SSS contributions, he or she has the option to continue paying their SSS contributions to complete the 120 months to be eligible for SSS monthly pension.
  • SSS member is at least 60 years old and separated from employment or desist from being self employed or household helper or OFW.
  • SSS member is already 65 years of age regardless if the member is employed, self employed, or a household helper locally or abroad.

The minimum monthly Retirement Pension that is awarded to an SSS member is P1,200 if he or she has a total accumulated SSS remittance of 120 months or at least 10 credited years of service. Or, P2,400 if the SSS member has paid at least 20 credit years of service. And, a P1,000 additional benefit is also given the SSS member retiree starting January 2017. A 13th month pension is given each SSS member retiree every December of each year.

The SSS member retiree's minor children will also receive a dependent's pension that is equal to 10% of the member's basic monthly pension or P250 whichever is higher. Only 5 dependent minor children, beginning with the youngest, can avail of Dependent's Pension and no substitution is allowed.  

The SSS member retiree may choose to receive the first 18 months pension in the form of a lump sum that is discounted at a preferential rate to be determined by the Social Security System. This option can only be availed of upon application of the first retirement claim and the minor dependents pension is not included in lump sum.

SSS Death Benefit

The SSS Death Benefit is a cash benefit given to the beneficiaries of a deceased SSS member either as a lump sum amount or as a monthly pension. And for the the primary beneficiaries to qualify for SSS Death Benefit, the deceased member must meet the following qualifications: 

  • The deceased SSS member must have paid the minimum of 36 monthly contributions before the time of the SSS member's death.
  • If the deceased SSS member has paid less than 36 monthly SSS contributions before the time of death, only a lump sum amount is given to the primary beneficiaries.
  • Secondary/designated beneficiaries and legal heirs are only entitled to a lump sum benefit regardless of the number of SSS contributions paid by the deceased SSS member.

If qualified for the SSS Death Benefit, the member's primary beneficiary is given a  monthly death pension of P1,000 if the deceased member has paid less than 360 monthly contributions. If the deceased SSS member had paid at least 360 monthly contributions, the primary beneficiary's pension is P1,200 and P2,400 if the deceased SSS member has paid at least 620 monthly SSS contributions. Aside from the regular monthly pension, a 13th month pension is also given to the SSS death benefit beneficiary every December of each year. 

If there are no primary beneficiaries, the members secondary beneficiaries will be given a lump sum amount. And if there are no secondary beneficiaries, the lump sum benefit will be given to the deceased member's designated beneficiaries or the legal heirs.

If the deceased SSS member has dependent minor children, they are entitled to receive a dependent's pension that is equal to 10% of the members monthly pension or P250.00 whichever is higher. Only 5 minor children starting with the youngest, are qualified to dependent's pension and no substitution is permitted.

SSS Funeral Benefit

The SSS Funeral Benefit is a cash benefit given to whoever paid for the funeral expenses of the deceased SSS member. And to qualify for an SSS Funeral Benefit, the SSS member must satisfy any of the following conditions:

  • The employee member was reported for coverage by the employer.
  • Must be a self employed member or OFW or Non-working spouse who has made at least 1 contribution payment.
  • Must be a voluntary member who was once employed or self employed or and OFW who has paid at least 1 SSS contribution payment.
  • An employee member was subject to compulsory coverage but was not reported for coverage by the employer.                                                                                                                                           
The SSS Funeral Benefit is an adjustable amount ranging from P20,000 minimum to P40,000 maximum depending on the SSS member's number of paid SSS contributions and average monthly salary credit.

SSS Unemployment Benefit

Also known as unemployment insurance or involuntary separation benefit. This SSS benefit is a cash benefit given to covered employees including kasambahays and land and sea-bases OFW's who are forced to unemployment. To qualify for the SSS unemployment benefit, the SSS member must meet the following qualifications:

  • Member should not be over 60 years of age at the time of involuntary separation; not over 55 years of age if a racehorse jockey; and not over 50 years of age if a mineworker either underground or surface.
  • Had paid at minimum of 36 monthly SSS contributions, 12 months of which should be in the 18-month period immediately after the month of involuntary separation.

Note: An SSS member is not qualified for SSS Unemployment Benefit if he or she is involuntarily separated from employment due to any of the following:

  • Serious misconduct
  • Analogous cases like abandonment, gross inefficiency, disloyalty/conflict of interest/dishonesty
  • Willful disobedience to lawful orders
  • Commission of a crime or offense
  • Gross and habitual neglect of duties
  • Fraud or breach of trust or loss of confidence

If an SSS member is qualified for unemployment benefit, he or she is given an amount that is equal to twice of 1/2 of the member's average monthly salary credit or AMSC. The SSS unemployment benefit is also given by means of a one-time payment and the claim must be filled within 1 year prior to the date of involuntary separation.

SSS Employees Compensation Program

The SSS Employees Compensation Program is a government program designed to provide a compensation package to public and private employees or their dependents in the event of work-related sickness, injury or death. The employees compensation program comes in the form of sickness benefit or death benefit.

To qualify for sickness benefit under the employees compensation program, the SSS member must meet the following conditions:

  • Sickness or injury is work related.
  • Employee has been duly reported to the Social Security System or SSS.
  • SSS has been informed of such sickness or injury.

To qualify for the death benefit under the employees compensation program, the SSS member must have paid at least 1 month contribution prior to the semester of death.

There are 4 types of benefit given under the Employees Compensation Program namely:

* Temporary Total Disability (TTD)

  • Under the Temporary Total Disability, a minimum of P110.00 and a maximum of P480.00 will be given starting May 19, 2018

* Permanent Partial Disability/Permanent Total Disability

  • The minimum pension is P2,000.
  • The dependent minor children is entitled to a Dependent's Pension (for total     disability) equal to 10% of the monthly pension and only 5 minor dependents     starting from the youngest can avail of the dependent's pension without     substitution.
  • Member is entitled to an additional pension amounting to P1,150.00 effective     January 1, 2017.
  • Carer's allowance is increased to P1,000 starting May 19, 2018
  • 13th month

* Death

  • The amount of benefit given is equal to monthly pension plus 15% difference
  • The dependent minor children are entitled to dependent's pension equal to 10%     of the monthly      pension and only 5 dependent minor children starting from the     youngest are entitled to dependent's pension and without substitution
  • The minimum pension is P2,000.
  • The SSS member is also entitled to P1,150 additional benefit starting January     2017.

* Funeral

  • The amount of monetary benefit is P30,000 starting on August 2, 2017
